Event Description:

This journal club will review a recent CDC investigation of an acute mass intoxication event affecting more than 80 individuals after consumption of food prepared with contaminated cooking oil at a Wisconsin restaurant. We will examine the clinical presentations, diagnostic challenges, and public health response, with a focus on emergency department triage, symptom management, and toxicology testing. Discussion will explore lessons for healthcare providers in recognizing atypical intoxication clusters, coordinating with public health authorities, and counseling patients on unintentional exposures to psychoactive substances in community settings.
